Free Apps to Support Starting a Mindfulness Practice

You’ve likely heard the many physiological, emotional, mental, and spiritual benefits of practicing mindfulness. Students and clients that are committed to starting such a practice often ask me to recommend mobile apps that they can use to either support their practice or share with others. I typically recommend trying one of the several quality, free applications available before paying money for one. While it may be difficult to cultivate a consistent and disciplined practiced, mindfulness practices themselves are pretty simple. So, a free application can go a long way especially if you have been introduced to a seated practice by a teacher or coach. In comparison, paid applications typically offer more of the following: content, customer support, feature updates, and app-based accountability. All in all, consistency of practice is what is most important.

Here is a list of the entirely free and partially free applications that I have either used or found to be reviewed highly.

Bottom line: Try a free application combined with your own accountability system. If you notice you are not consistently practicing, consider the best accountability upgrade for you, which may lead you to try a paid service.
